Understand the Geometry – Scan What the Software Aligns To

The Scan Ladder cylinder is intentionally designed with:

  • Each has a perfectly matched cylinder
  • Irregular, patented random-surface geometry for frame-to-frame matching
  • Consistent reference points that allow the IOS to anchor cross-arch stitching
  • Flat surfaces and facets that prevent rotational alignment errors
  • Multiple lengths for better visibility in deep or posterior cases

The cylinder geometry is what the software matches to — so capturing it completely is essential.

How the Scan Should Look – Clear, Continuous, No Missing Surfaces

Your scan should show:

✔ full cylinder geometry
✔ clear edges
✔ no voids
✔ continuous connection between implants

If any cylinder looks incomplete, rescan that region before exporting.

The TissueSync Workflow in Medit SmartX

In this video, we demonstrate the TissueSync workflow in Medit SmartX. TissueSync can help improve scan merging and soft tissue alignment when used alongside Scan Ladder scan bodies, giving clinicians and technicians a more stable digital workflow. This video is especially useful for Medit users who want to understand how TissueSync fits into their full-arch implant scanning process.

Medit SmartX – Real-Time Matching for Maximum Accuracy

SmartX Tips:

  • Enable Smart Matching for all implant cases
  • Pause for a moment to let SmartX map the cylinder before moving on
  • Rotate around the cylinder slowly during acquisition

This allows SmartX to eliminate stitching errors and maintain a fixed centreline between all implants.
